Perth stands at the start of serious Highland country. Hills or bens and monroes are all about with their attendant lochs, forested flanks, vibrant colours and wild creatures in abundance. Many, like the capercaille bird, golden eagle, wildcat and pine marten have made this territory their home. Located beside the River Tay, the 'Fair City' of Perth has been a Royal Burgh since 1210 and was capital of Scotland in medieval times. Today it is a popular centre for visitors with Dewar supplying the essential Scots ingredient on many travellers wish list - a whisky distillery.
