Holiday resort beside the beautiful wooded Derwent Gorge, on the main southern road approach to the Peak National Park, Derbyshire. The Heights of Abraham, 750ft/229m above the town and accessible by cable car, are said to have been named by an officer who fought under General Wolfe in the defining battle against the French to capture similarly-named heights beside the St Lawrence waterway in Quebec, Canada.
