City of cathedrals & Lady Godiva. For some four decades following the end of the Second World War, Coventry was dubbed 'the Detroit of Britain' too for its prolific output of motor cars. But it was the good Lady Godiva who first impressed Coventry on the wider world - albeit a medieval world. The last war and its aftermath added the modern legend with the destruction and postwar rebuilding of Coventry Cathedral and ravaged city. One of the best investments for visitors to Coventry today is a guided tour. That not only dips into the medieval past but also travels the centuries in between to come out in a modern, welcoming city of the present day.
